11.11.09. Sanderson Stewart Receives Best Logo Award

Sanderson Stewart has received the First Annual Best Civil Engineering Logo Award from Civil Engineering Central.  This national award honors the company’s new name and branding effort.  In February of this year, the long-time Billings, MT based company announced its name change from Engineering, Inc. to Sanderson Stewart to better identify with the growing company’s community development service offerings, while still honoring the company’s roots.

Logos were submitted from all across the nation and were judged on a sliding scale based on the following criteria:

  1. Does the logo make an immediate impact by grabbing one’s attention right off the bat?

  2. Is the logo memorable? Is it uniquely applicable to what the firm does – enough so that it will positively embed itself in the memory of clients, employees, peers, etc?

  3. Is the logo appealing to the eye?

  4. Does the logo accurately represent the company and its services?

  5. Does the nominated logo accurately represent the firm’s corporate and employment branding initiatives?

Sanderson Stewart was the top vote getter, with Southern Civil Engineers, Kleinfelder, Medina Consultants, and Bailey Land Group rounding out the top five.  http://blog.civilengineeringcentral.com/

6.25.2009. Sanderson Stewart Celebrates 40th Anniversary!

Sanderson Stewart is proudly celebrating its 40th year of providing engineering and community development services throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. Incorporated as Engineering, Inc. on this date in 1969, the firm started by long time Billings-area engineer and land surveyor Jack Mueller and the then newly-graduated Bob Sanderson has seen many changes over the years.  The first was when John Stewart joined the firm after returning home from Iowa in 1971, and the company became Sanderson/Stewart/Mueller Engineering, Inc.

John and Bob bought the company from Jack Mueller in 1976 and remain active on the Board of Directors to this day.  In 2002, Engineering, Inc. as it was then called, was purchased from Bob and John by the current principals: Rick Leuthold, President; Dennis Randall, Vice President; and Michael Sanderson, Managing Director.

The firm has grown from those early days into a regional firm employing over 60 professionals in 5 offices. In February of this year, the company announced a name change from Engineering, Inc. to Sanderson Stewart, which better defines the company’s more comprehensive service offerings and vision for the future while honoring the integrity and hard work of the founders.

5.20.2009. Sanderson Stewart receives prestigious ITE Intermountain Section Outstanding Transportation Engineering Project Award for 2009, for their design of the Shiloh Corridor project, in Billings, MT

The Shiloh Road Corridor project is a 4.5 Mile, $30 million urban arterial street reconstruction project completed for the Montana Department of Transportation in cooperation with the City of Billings, Yellowstone County, and the Federal Highway Administration. It features 8 pedestrian and bicycle friendly multi-lane roundabouts, which is believed to be the most roundabouts in series within a corridor in the United States. The roundabout solution will help to move traffic safely and efficiently; calming traffic and minimizing idle time, which will reduce emissions, save time and even lives by lowering collision speeds and impact points. This project required a detailed Environmental Assessment, as well as extensive agency and public coordination with more than 100 adjacent landowners. The Shiloh Corridor will integrate the fast growing West Billings residential and commercial areas with the outlying agricultural areas while providing a vital North-South connecting route for commuters. It has been estimated (by Big Sky Economic Development Authority) that the reconstruction of this street will foster more than $750,000,000 in new development. Other features of the project include a large pedestrian underpass, noise barrier wall, irrigation, storm drainage, roadway lighting, and extensive environmentally conscious landscaping.
